Harvest and our Food Parcels scheme

Harvest Sunday_0

This Sunday, 27 September, is celebrated as Harvest Sunday. Many thanks to our flower team for displaying this theme in decorating the Church.

You have been very generous in donating tins for our food parcels scheme. Please keep this up. Some of the items you have donated are displayed to act as a symbol of our offering to the Lord. Please continue your generosity.

How to help

For many years, volunteers from the parish of St Austin and St Gregory have, raised funds, haggled and shopped to get food. Then they carefully portioned it out to make parcels which include a variety of different foods. From 10am to 1pm every Monday and Tuesday these are given to poor people who call at the door.
You could help by

  • Volunteering your time
  • Giving some money
  • Popping an extra item in your shopping basket (see “TINS”) and dropping it in the box at the back of the Church

Tins

We really need tins. Lots of tins. These keep in our store and they keep when people do not have a fridge (or indeed a house to put a fridge in!)

  • Tins of meat (any kind)
  • Tins of sardines
  • Tins of tuna
  • Tins of soup
  • Tins of spaghetti
  • Tins of bolognese
  • Tins of baked beans

(If you get bored with tins, packets of cereal, and packets of soup are also really helpful.)
