SECRET AND HIDDEN WISDOM OF GOD

Our Blessed Lord does not always go with popular opinions. He will often teach in ways that

challenge the status quo. He goes beyond the social paradigms, concepts and theories. His

teaching on murder, adultery, divorce and taking of oaths are typical examples of his

determination to invite his followers, God’s children to reject mediocrity and lukewarmness. He

teaches fidelity to the laws and the prophets. Hence he says to his disciples, ‘Do not think that

I have come to abolish the Law or the prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil

them…’ (cf. Mt 5:17-37). The Lord expects more from his disciples, socially, morally,

spiritually. While his teaching is not popular, it matters that it is the right one. Such wisdom is

only made manifest to the mature. It does not accept half measures. Wisdom reveals itself in

its actions. It produces results that last. He is both the Incarnate Wisdom and the Wisdom

incarnate. He is Wisdom per excellence.

Beloved People of God, we ought to desire the secret and hidden wisdom of God. This type of

wisdom can only be revealed to the those with childlike disposition. It is not the wisdom of this

age or of the rulers of this age who are doomed to pass away. The scripture goes further to tell

us that the ‘wisdom of this world’ is foolishness before God.

We know that the said wisdom comes from keeping God’s commandments. We have also read

that God’s commandments are not impossible. Scripture says, ‘if you desire, you will keep the

commandments and to act faithfully is a matter of choice. He has placed before you fire and

water: stretch out your hand for whichever you wish. Life and death are in front of people, and

whichever one chooses will be given to him. In union with the word of God, we pray, ‘I thank

you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, you have revealed the secrets of the kingdom to little

children’.
