This weekend, from our readings, our Blessed Lord teaches some of those ‘hard-to-accept’ lessons. Only one guided by wisdom and faith can appreciate the truth of these words spoken by God himself. ‘How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God…it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God…’ (cf. Mk 10:17-30). The surprise and the confusion of the disciples at such teaching in those days perdure.
Beloved People of God, we all have things that we can take up to God. We definitely and ultimately can do with everything that God is willing, eager and ready to teach or offer. In any case, he will only permit that which is in line with his holy will, that which agrees with his best plan for our life. We shall need wisdom to accept that God’s plan for us is the best. This wisdom is a gift. It can only be granted and received through prayer. As many would trust and obey to pray for wisdom, to accept and operate in and with wisdom would discover what the book of Wisdom means when it says, ‘in her (wisdom) company all good things came to me, at her hands riches not be numbered’ (Cf. Ws 7:7-11). God does not change. He remains the same. His is always true. He fulfils his promises forever.
May we learn to take up things to God. This is also prayer. From our praise to our fears and worries, from our questions, confusions, petitions, hopes and aspirations and to our thanksgiving for prayers answered, indeed, for everything. We ought to learn to find fulfilment from his word which is ‘something alive and active: it cuts like any double-edged sword but more finely: it can slip through the place where the soul is divided from the spirit, or joints from the marrow…’ (cf. Hb 4:12-13).
