THE THINGS THAT WE DISBELIEVE…!

After his resurrection, when the Lord came in and stood among the disciples, for the first time, Thomas was not among them. When the other disciples told him, saying, ‘We have seen the Lord’, he said to them, ‘Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe…Eight days later, the disciples were inside again and Thomas was with them…Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and see my hands, and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe…’ (cf. Jn 20:19-31). 

Beloved people of God, there are many blessings that we disbelieve. God’s mercy (Diving Mercy) is one of such blessings. The psalmist says, ‘Give praise to the Lord for he is good, his mercy endures for ever… Let the house of Israel say, his mercy endures for ever…let those who fear the Lord say, ‘his mercy endures for ever’ (cf. Ps 118 (117) God’s infinite mercy is among the blessings meant to make our lives truly beautiful, amazing and admirable. They look too good to be real. Yet, disbelieving the reality of these blessings makes our lives as Christians very difficult. We labour needlessly. We suffer unnecessarily. Yet God is mercy.

As we read that, ‘Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name’, may God’s grace help our unbelief, turning our doubts into faith. May we heed the words and trust the One who says to us, ‘Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive for evermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades’ (cf. Rev. 1:17-19).
